Hypertext refers to a digital text that can be used by the end-users to navigate other related information through embedded hyperlinks. This way, the hypertext offers an easy way of presenting information to the users in a more organized way. With hypertexts, readers can easily move from one location to another in search for any related information.

It is important to also know that the content contained when using hypertext can either be static or dynamic. On the other hand, hypermedia is the use of data, graphics, text, video, and audio as elements of an extended hypertext system so as to make it easy for users to navigate through them once these elements are connected.

While both are similar in some ways, it is important to know that hypertext is text-based, while hypermedia uses other elements like the aforementioned ones. Another difference is that hypertext has been in use for ages, whereas hypermedia is a newer technology.

Hypertext is a cross referencing tool that can be very powerful when used. Users will use it to access information that is interconnected. This is information that is normally in a dynamic electronic format or a static format. It can be text or media that is in an electronic text.

Hypertext is helpful because it can be used to show information, as well as organize it for an easier access. Hypermedia is related to hypertext because it is an extension of it. Different types of media make use of hypermedia including text, graphics, and video. Hypertext is a link, while hypermedia is multimedia.

On the other hand, hypermedia happens to be an extension of hypertext which makes use of various forms of media such as still or moving graphics, text, video or audio sequences, etc. The structure of hypermedia and hypertext are similar, but the basic difference between them is that the former is not just text-based, unlike the later. Simply put, hypertext is a link to a page that can represent text and multimedia contents in an electronic text format. Meanwhile, hypermedia has to do with the combination of both multimedia and hypertext to represent a load of information.
