Association and correlation are two means of clarifying a relationship between statistical variables. Association belongs to a more generalized term, and correlation can be considered a specific association case. The statistical term association is identified as a relationship between two random variables, making them statistically dependent.

It refers to a general relationship without specifics of the relationship being concluded, and it does not require a casual relationship. Many statistical techniques are used to establish the association between two variables. Correlation is a measure of the strength of this relationship. The correlation coefficient measures the degree of change of one variable. In statistics, correlation is connected to dependence, which is the statistical relationship between two variables.

Association is a concept, but the correlation is a measure of association, and mathematical tools calculate the correlation's magnitude. Rank correlation coefficients are utilized to ascertain the nature of the relationship only. It will tell whether both variables increase or one increases while the other decreases or vice versa.

In this article, I would be explaining correlation and association to you from the angle of statistics as a subject since that is the first thing that comes to most people's minds when the two terms are being mentioned. In this sense, we can define correlation as the strength of the linear relationships that occurs between two variables. Hence, you can measure the correlation of two variables by taking into consideration whether a variable would be altered accordingly, after which the other variable has been increased or decreased by a certain factor. A correlation can be found to be negative or positive. If it is negative, that means the variable moves in the opposite direction. Meanwhile, the variables alter towards the same direction if the correlation is positive. Association, on the other hand, simply means a sort of connection between two or more different entities. Association is a term that is more widely in use and can even mean correlation sometimes. I believe the association is not a big deal to understand; it is simply like the coming together of a group of people or anything to achieve a common goal.

When you say correlation, this means that you are trying to know the association between the different variables that are available. It is through correlation that people can determine how strong the relationship is between two different factors or items.

When you say association, this will also pertain to the relationship of two variables but you are looking into the actual presence of the relationship. A lot of people would use a correlation when they need to use a technical term to connect two different items. There are different results that may be available when the correlation between different items are checked. These results are positive, negative, and no correlation.

Defining from the perspective of statistics, correlation refers to one of the various measures of the linear relationship between 2 random variables and thus indicating bothering the direction and strength of the relationship. Correlation is used in defining close terms that most likely some things in common.

There are two kinds of correlation: positive and negative correlation. For positive correlation, if two variables are correlated, the second variable increased when the first is increased and also decreases when the other decreases. On the other hand, association refers to many things having a relationship together.

Association is less mathematical in its approach, unlike correlation. It can also refer to a group of some people with a similar goal. Association can be used for two or more things, while correlation is usually used to describe or measure two variables. Correlation is a term that is well used in science, while the association is not as though referenced in the field of science.
