People are often judged by where they live. Each area in the world is described using a certain word. Two of those words to describe an area that a person lives in are hood and ghetto. Hood is short for neighborhood, but over time, the meaning has changed to negatively describe an area.

It is used to describe those that are poor and often have a low economic status. Ghetto is also used in a negative connotation, for it is used to describe those in a low class area. Both words are often used to negatively describe African-Americans and Mexicans.
