There are a lot of people who may get confused about this, especially since there was a time when the data was thought to be interchangeable. Some differences should be noted so that further confusion can be avoided. First of all, the NAD83 will make use of the Geodetic Reference System, also known as GRS80. The WGS84 will make use of the WGS 84 ellipsoid.

Take note that the measures of the ellipsoids that were used for both are slightly different, which means that if you would use them interchangeably, they may not always fit properly. There are some people who say however, that the difference is not that great that it would only take a professional to know the difference. It will still depend on how these items will be used to get a conclusion.
