One thing that you may notice is that there are different types of vinegar that are available. Regular vinegar is usually made out of sugarcane, while rice wine vinegar is made out of rice. This is usually created by fermenting the rice into alcohol first and then waiting for it to turn to acid.

Another difference between the two is how they are used. Rice wine vinegar is normally used for dressing, especially when you are going to create a salad while regular white vinegar can be used more for flavoring certain types of dishes. Not everyone can appreciate the flavor of vinegar as some people just do not like sour things.
