For the original Top Gun, the producers sought out the assistance of the United States Navy in the production of the film. The military was prominent concerning script approval, which allowed them to beef up the informational aspect of the story.

As for the sequel, the Pentagon was incredibly supportive. The Pentagon gave Paramount Pictures Corporation extensive access to its facilities and personnel during the making of the motion picture.

Also, the old warplane called F-14 Tomcat will be making a special appearance in the movie. The Tomcat seen onscreen is set up to look as if it enacted an emergency landing onto the ship's barricade, which provokes the action in the film.
