The correct answer to this question is No. Hindus are not the only people that celebrate the festival, which is Diwali. Though Diwali originated from Hinduism, it is seen now as a cultural festival and not just one tied to Hinduism. Members of other religions, like Christianity and Islam, also celebrate Diwali.

The word Diwali itself means victory when light wins over darkness. This is an idea that anyone can celebrate, regardless of which religion they are in. This is because the word itself is versatile and can mean many things. It can mean good over evil, as well as mean wisdom over ignorance.

Most of the people who celebrate Diwali are Hindus but there are also some people who may celebrate it because they cannot help but become enticed to experience the celebration. Diwali is known to be “The Festival of Lights.” This celebration lasts for about four to five days. For the year 2019, this is set to happen on October 27. This is meant to signify that no matter what happens, the light will always triumph over darkness.

A lot of Hindu people will make use of a lot of candles and other lights. They would also exchange gifts with each other. This is also being celebrated by Hindus from other parts of the world. For example, in the UK, they celebrate Diwali although the celebration will always be different in India.

Diwali is more of a cultural festival than something that can be really tied to Hinduism, though the festival truly originated from Hinduism. Diwali is not only celebrated by Hindus but also by other cultural and religious groups. It is celebrated by Sikhs and Jains. It will also interest you to know that Diwali is celebrated by Christians and Muslims. If you truly understand what this festival actually stands for, then you will know that it is something everybody should celebrate. Diwali simply means victory of light over darkness.

Diwali can also be interpreted in a number of ways; it means the celebration of good over evil, and wisdom over ignorance. Whenever Diwali is mentioned, the first you should think of is illumination in all facets. The reality of this simply means Diwali is something everybody should be celebrating; at least it brings us to the awareness that we need to always go after things that can bring light.
