Weed eaters, which are also known as string trimmers, these are devices for trimming grasses and some other foliage. This device was invented in the year 1972, and it has made grass trimming very easier. Since the invention of this device, there have been efforts put in place to improve on this device, or to get another device that can perform the same operation better. Bladed trimmers are also used to trim grasses, but it differs from the string trimmers because it makes use of blades to cut the grass, while the string trimmers make use of monofilament line in cutting grass.

They have several designs of which they come with depending on the thickness of foliage to be cut. The two devices can actually be powered with gas or electricity (battery) as a source of power. The string trimmers that are gas-powered can be of 2-cycle or 4-cycle engine, where which the 4-cycle engine is more powerful, heavier, louder, and of course more expensive than the 2-cycle engine.
