Mayonnaise is prepared by using egg yolk, lemon juice or vinegar and a mixture of oil together with other ingredients. The mixture of the oil and water is made possible by the lecithin of the egg yolk. And the process is a very slow one which involves the mixing of the egg yolk and the oil by using an electric mixer or fork.

The original name for mayonnaise is mahonia but later changed to mayonnaise when it entered into France. Mayonnaise is mostly used as the starting material for sauce and salad dressings, it is also used as a dip.
