In carbon dioxide, which is CO2, is where two oxygen atoms are bound to one carbon, but in carbon monoxide, which is CO, only one oxygen atom is bound to carbon. Both are gasses and are both odorless and tasteless. CO2 is non-flammable, and CO is very combustible.

CO2 is natural and occurs when humans and animals exhale; however, CO does not naturally occur in the atmosphere, and just small amounts of it can cause health problems. CO2 is heavier than air, so it sinks, and CO is lighter, so it rises.
