A mineral is a naturally occurring material that is formed through geological processes and that have a unique chemical composition, which is a highly ordered atomic edifice and specific physical properties. A rock is a naturally happening aggregate of minerals. Rocks do not have a determinate chemical composition. Also, minerals maintain their shape and color, and rocks do not.
