A lot of archeological operations had been conducted on the site as human remains and other materials that were left behind were used by archeologists in unraveling the nature and the activities of the inhabitants of the city. All the inhabitants were buried and just fewer people were able to make it out of the incident. The place was found out by an Italian architect named Domenico Fontana. Domenico Fontana was born on 28, June 1543 and died in 1607. Domenico Fontana discovered the ruins of Pompeii when he was digging an underground tunnel around the area.
