Oil-rich countries have a lot of power. They have a massive benefit because they have bargaining resources. They can enforce embargoes or raise the price, according to what they are trying to get or to do whatever they want. Petroleum politics have always been an issue in the world since petroleum has become such a staple product. Oil-rich states are also often a target to "resource wars." It's been that way since the beginning of time.

If you are a country with oil, you cannot help but be a pawn of political power. It's a messed up thing, but it is accurate and isn't unlike the history of the world where any country or region with an in-demand product has a lot of power and control. And, you aren't safe because everyone wants what you have, especially something as coveted and essential as oil is.
