It is very important because it is one of the most recognized theorems in math. Whenever a student joins his geometry class, he probably first learns this theorem. This theorem states that A squared plus B squared is equal to C squared.

This formula applies to right angled triangles. The “A” is one side but it is not the angled long side of the triangle. Instead it is one of the sides that makes the right angle. The “B” side is the other side that makes the right angle. Then the “C” side is the side that is opposite to the right angle. This theorem is important because once the student realizes how to do this formula, it helps with understanding other theorems and proofs.
