Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer, the leader of the first circumnavigation of the globe. On 27 April, 1521, the explorer was involved in the Battle of Mactan in Philippines with the native warriors. He was hit with a poisoned spear and arrow by one of the warriors who were involved in the inter tribe war and he died of the stab wound.

Magellan was considered an invader as he was trying to convert Lapu - Lapu to Christianity but Lapu – Lapu rejected. The natives also believed he took sides in local politics, in fact it is said that he died while trying to fight Datu Lapu - Lapu of an island while supporting the Rajah Humabon and Datu Zula of the next island.
