Like many high-profile cases like King and John F. Kennedy Jr., there are many who believe in conspiracy theories about the murders. Most of the theories revolve around the belief that there were other people behind the murder. It is sometimes believed that the people would try to hire a common criminal to execute the plan.

There were many people who were racist who wanted King dead. There was a belief that they wanted to kill King and hired Ray to do the job. Ray was not innocent even prior to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. He had been involved in criminal activity for quite a while. However, it is believed that he planned out the assassination by getting a nose job and using a map.
