It is because of the changes in the broader culture's values, beliefs, and practices. Narcissism has increased over time among individuals. College students now endorse more narcissistic traits than they did twenty or thirty years ago. There have been significant increases in materialism, entitlement, self-promotion, and the desire for uniqueness.
There have also been more instances of plastic surgery, credit card debt, greed and people being driven solely by the need for power and influence. The United States comes in second place in the list of the most narcissistic parts of the world. First place goes to Russia. Turkey comes in at third, and Peru comes in at fourth. Narcissism is rampant all over the world, and these are just a few examples.
