There are different kinds of, including the first class, second class, and third class. There are also different kinds of pulleys, including the fixed pulley, moveable pulley, and compound pulley.

There are also the wheel and axle and the inclined plane with the wedge and screw. If a 20 N block is attached to the end of a rope and the rope is looped around a pulley system, you could pull the opposite end of the rope a distance of 2.0 m. The pulley system raises the block a range of 0.40 m with a mechanical advantage of 5.0.
