Short term memory has a time limit on seconds to minutes, wheras long term memory last from days to decades. short term memory has a capacity for seven plus minus two units, whereas long term memory has almost no limit at all.short term memories are stored to long-term memories, to retrieve them we need to bring long-term memories to our short-term memory again.short term memory cant be further divided except to call it working memory, while long-term memory can be subdivided to declarative explicit memory and to non declarative implicit memory. explicit and implicit memory can as well be further divided. long term memory contains more concepts and use more brain areas than working memory.
