Zechariah was a person in the Hebrew Bible, and he was traditionally considered to be the author of the Book of Zechariah and the eleventh of the twelve minor prophets. He was a prophet of the two tribes Kingdom of Judah, and as the Prophet, Ezekiel was also of the clerical family of Aaron.
Elizabeth was childless and barren. They were advanced in age; however, Elizabeth eventually conceived a child. She insisted her son be named John. Their son grew up in the woods and became John the Baptist, the oracle who proclaimed Jesus.

In the time of Herod king of Judeathere was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah;his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.
