Kilograms is part of the metric system. This system is used frequently around the world. The metric system is based on a pattern. Each step in the metric system is increased by multiplying the number by ten. For example, one gram is equal to ten decimeters. The United States uses pounds as their system among other measurements. So, comparing these two measurements requires a conversion since they are from two different measurement systems.

When calculated, one kilograms is equal to about 2.2 pounds. So, one kilogram is quite larger than a pound. It is almost two and a half times larger than the pound. If you look at this in the other direction, one pound is equal to almost half of a kilogram.
