To answer this question, we have to discuss fruits and vegetables separately. Let’s start with fruits. They are not divided into any specific subgroups but blueberries, cantaloupes, strawberries and watermelons are ranked as fruits which are considered as nutrient-dense fruits. Fruit juices are also considered as part of the fruit group, as well.

The recommend fruit intake for women until the age of 30 and for men of all ages are 2 cups of fruit per day. Now, let’s talk about vegetables. Vegetables are grouped into five subgroups such as dark green, starchy, beans and peas, red and orange vegetables and other vegetables. Women and men until the age of 50 are required to eat 2 1.2 cups and 3 cups of vegetable per day.
