If you bring a lawsuit against an abusive debt collector, it can be a lengthy process. This is usually the state court that takes the longest time, and has the most expensive process. This would be the kind of case you think of when you think “court television show”, like CBS’ “Bull”. Everyone has lawyers, there might be a jury, and generally, the outcome is broadcasted in the newspapers and on television when there are big players, like a debt collector.

However, a small claims court case would be faster and less expensive. Either way, you have to have strong records of what the debt collector has done to you that would violate this law, otherwise the collector could be the winner instead of you.
