The correct answer to this question is B. Smoking during pregnancy is contraindicated because it can increase the risk of having a miscarriage. Carbon monoxide is one of the many substances found in cigarette smoke.

When pregnant women smoke, the carbon monoxide binds with the hemoglobin of the mother reducing available hemoglobin for the fetus. The amount of oxygenated blood that reaches the fetus is diminished by the ability of the hemoglobin to bind with oxygen.

Nicotine does not cause vasodliation of the mother's or vasocontriction of the fetus's blood vessels, but it can cause sudden death in infants. The smoke will bot make the fetus or mother feel dizzy.
