The story “Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky” is a folktale. Folktales were written to explain why things happen in nature. This folktale was written by an African person because it is considered an African folktale. It is about the sun and water wanting to be great friends. The live on earth. Frequently, the sun would come to see the water, but unfortunately the water never came to see the Sun. This had to do with where the Sun and water lived.

So, the Sun said it would build a large house so that the water could come and visit. Both the moon and sun got together to create this house. When it was built, the water visited and water and other fish and animals came into the house. When this happened, the sun and moon moved to the sky.
