Yes, it is an example of an epic poem because it features the story of a losing team that is won by the help of a hero. This poem is written by Ernest Thayer and was published on June 3, 1888. This poem revolves around baseball and has been widely acclaimed as one of the best poems ever written.

Originally, this poem was published under the pen name Phin, which is Thayer’s college nickname. After a month of its publishing, it was reprinted with the title Kelly at the Bat in New York Sporting Times magazine. The first five verses were cut from this version and few names were changed
