However, it is worthy to note that the spelling is incorrect, because it’s supposed to be ANDRE MAUROIS and not ANDR MAUROIS. Born Salomon Wilhelm Herzog on July 26, 1885 in Elbeuf, France, his novel entitled Les silences du colonel Bramble which became an immediate success in France.

It was then translated to English with the title The Silence of Colonel Bramble. Aside from writing novels, he was also known as a writer of bibliographies such as Disraeli and of course, Ariel. The complete title of Ariel was: Ariel Or the Life of Shelley and it covered the story of Percy Bysshe Shelley, an English romantic poet who was best known for poems such as Ode to the West Wind, The Cloud, To a Skylark, and The Masque of Anarchy.
