Shel Silverstein. Born Sheldon Allan Silverstein on September 25, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, he was known not only as a poet, but also a cartoonist, a screenwriter, and author of children’s books. Where the Sidewalk Ends is a poem which he published in 1974. However, it is also worthy to note that this exact poem’s title appears together with other poems under the poetry collection entitled “Where the Sidewalk Ends.”

His poem was a success and it was then deemed as one of the classics of children’s literature. His other works include some of the following: The Missing Piece which was published in 1976, A Light in the Attic in 1981, and Runny Rabbit in 2005.
