In the Tale of Peter Rabbit, Peter sneaked into a garden. The garden is owned by Mr. McGregor. He did this in order to eat as many vegetables as he can. He was able to escape before Mr. McGregor catches him but he has lost his clothing in the process. He came home naked and tired because of the whole ordeal.

He had to rest with the use of chamomile tea. The clothes he left behind were placed in a scarecrow to scare off future intruders of the garden. There are other tales that are available wherein the clothes are retrieved but this is not part of the main Tale of Peter Rabbit book anymore.
