The Chatfield Brass Band Free Music Lending Library began in 1973. However, it is no longer free because it is a non-profit that is funded solely on check-out fees, membership fees, and late fees. People are still more than welcome to browse in person in the library in Minnesota, but to check out any of the music, they’ll have to register for an account. Small service fees are also requested since it is, in their words, a private library.

Many of the pieces in the library are ones that are no longer printed today. These are the ones that are hardest to find online or in print because they’re honestly the hardest ones to play, so people rarely play them in bands.
