The name of the princess in “The Princess Bride” is Buttercup. The name remained the same in the 1989 adaptation of the book. The novel came out in 1973, and was written by William Goldman. The book follows Buttercup, Westley, Prince Humperdink, and a band of pirate-kidnappers in an adventure full of, to quote the movie, “chases, escapes, pirates, sword fights” and of course, true love.
The movie and the book have had such a large reaction - it’s considered a favorite movie of many even today. The movie brings the book to life, and was such a different kind of movie. Many of the actors and actresses - Robin Wright, Cary Elwes, Chris Sarandon, and others - have been recognized purely for their parts in this movie.
