The Pittsburgh Steelers was previously known as the Pirates from July 08, 1933, the day it was founded, until 1940 when they changed the name to Pittsburgh Steelers. They used this name from 1940 to 1942, then changed its name to Phil-Pitt “Steagles” in 1943 and Card-Pitt in 1944, and then went back to the Pittsburgh Steelers again in 1945 up to the present.
