Between the years 1509-1511, Raphael created his most famous piece of art, The School of Athens. This piece of art was one of many that were created as commission to decorate the rooms within the Vatican. It is unknown when Raphael was actually born, but it is believed to have been March 28, 1483 or April 6, 1483, and died April 6, 1520. The work of Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino) was an Italian artist known for his clarity and “ease of composition” in his art.

Although Rafael died at the young age of 37, he left behind a large of amount of work which are now found in the Vatican.
