People who study the weather are called meteorologists. There are some people who feel that meteorologists are only studying meteors but this is not true at all. Meteorologists are people who study different things that happen in the atmosphere. A meteorologist usually uses his knowledge about the different phenomena in order to explain the things that are happening to the planet. The meteorologist would get data and would analyze the various things that are happening. The meteorologist will share data about the atmosphere.

There are two types of meteorologists. There are some who do forecasting while there are also some who do research. There are a lot of weather forecasters who get a lot of flak for making the wrong predictions but it should be remembered that the weather is often unpredictable.

People who study weather are called meteorologists. A common misconception when using this word is that other people think that people who study meteors are also called meteorologist, but that is not the case. The term meteorologist comes from Ancient Greek when Aristotle wrote a compendium called Meteorologica about Western knowledge and climate.

Although the term is derived from the Greek word “meteoros” which means anything that comes from the atmosphere – this includes rain, rainbows, snow, hail, ice and meteor – the discipline of the study of astronomical phenomena and the weather have been split into two parts; the study of weather retained the word meteorology, which means that people who study meteors and the astronomical phenomena are not called meteorologist.
