There are five geographical regions in Georgia namely the Appalachian Plateau Region, the Blue Ridge Region, the Ridge and Valley Region, the Piedmont Region and the Coastal Plain Region. The Appalachian Plateau Region is located west of the Appalachian Highlands and has high, rugged plains. In here you can find the Great Smoky Mountains which has an estimated 187,000 acres consisting of old forests. The Blue Ridge Region has several highest mountains in Eastern America such as Baffin Island which exceeds 5,000 feet in elevation.

The Ridge and Valley Region is one of the provinces of larger than Appalachian which extends to several areas such as Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky. The Piedmont Region extends from New Jersey to central Alabama and is also one of the provinces of larger Appalachian division consisting of the Piedmont Upland and Lowland sections. The Coastal Plain Region covers the south and southeastern half of Georgia and is also the largest region among all five regions of Georgia.
