Ovarian cycle: the hypothalamus stimulate the pituitary gland to release Follicular Stimulating Hormone and Leutenizing Hormone which stimulates the development of an egg in the ovary. The developing follicle secretes estrogen and progesterone. At ovulation (day 14), the developed egg is released. Corpus Luteum continue to secrete estrogen and progesterone, if fertilization does not occur corpus luteum degenerates and the cycle starts all over again.

Uterine cycle: the uterus appears different at several stages of the menstrual cycle.
Menstrual period: this is a period where the uterine wall is sloughed off. This period varies between 1 to 7 days in women.

Proliferative phase: occurs after the menstrual period, the uterus prepares for possible pregnancy. This period last till the 13th day of the menstrual cycle. Follicular phase can vary in length.

Secretory phase: secretory phase is 14 days. It is constant in length. The endometrium continues to thicken, preparing for possible fertilization.

Ovarian cycle: the anterior pituitary gland releases fsh and lh stimulating the development of the immature follicle and the oocyte and progesterone and estrogen. a surge in lh and fsh results in ovulation and the remains of the ruptured follicle leave the corpus luteum. the corpus luteum continues to secret estrogen and progesterone. if fertilization does not occur the corpus lutuem degenerates and the cycle starts over.uterine cycle: the menstrual period (between days1-5) is when the endometrium is sloughed off; this is the period. the proliferative period (days 6-13) has the endometrium thicken and prepare for pregnancy. ovulation occurs on the 14 day. the secretory phase (15-28) has the endometrium to continue thickening and secretions to increase to provide nutrients to the fertilized egg.
