Leukopenia is a condition where a person has a decreased number of white blood cells (WBCs) and has a very high possibility of infection. A person with Leukopenia may have less than 3500 white blood cells per microliter whereas a healthy person white blood cells counts ranges from 3500 to 11,000 per microliter.

White blood cells are made in the bone marrow and are very important in the immune defense of the body.

Leukopenia is caused by bone marrow suppression, bone marrow disease, cancers that have spread to the bone marrow, autoimmune disorder, diseases of the immune system, and many other conditions. It also leads to tiredness, weakness and shorten of breath.
