Materials a grape to represent the moon an orange to represent the earth a toothpick a piece of styrofoam (about 1/2 inch thick by and inch or two high and wide) a desk lamp to represent the sun a rulerfrom doing the experiment it was noticed that despite the sizes, once the sun (desk lamp), moon (grape), and earth (orange) align, an eclipse was recreated. By repositioning the the items you can also see how alignment is critical to duplicate any type of eclipse and observe it. Watching the videos in the webquest will help gain a better understanding as to how and why eclipses occur.
