From my research, the Black Plague and the Bubonic Plague are often referred to as the same thing. Whichever it was, 1/3 of Europe's population was wiped out in the mid 14th century from this pandemic.

Bubonic plague is one of three forms of plague(disease caused by the bacterium yersinia pestis) now known to exist. The others are septicemic and pneumonic. The relative importance of the three in the epidemic that struck 14th century europe is the subject of ongoing debate.

The epidemic as a whole is referred to as the black death. Referring to it as bubonic plague no longer reflects current understanding of the epidemic.

The Bubonic Plague

The Bubonic Plague was carried by fleas on rats aboard trading ships from the East and ravaged Europe for many centuries.
