A prepositional phrase is a group of words consisting of a preposition, object and any word that modifies the object. There are two types of prepositional phrases which include the adverbial phrase and adjectival phrase.

Adjectives modify nouns, pronouns, and other adjectives. The adjectival phrase is simple words that provide more details.

Examples of the sentence using adjectival phrase include

1. The book inside the box is mine.
2. The extra bag is in the box under the bed.
3. Sammy, unlike many others, will remain there.
An adverb modifies verbs and other adverbs. Examples of the sentence using adverbial phrase include
1. Put the plates on the high shelf.
2. The balloon drifted up the stairs.
3. Our team won against all odds.
