Mary was conceived immaculately in her mother s womb and was preserved from sin. In the Church, it is taught that God acted on Mary first, which is what kept her immaculate. This doctrine was defined in 1854 by Pope Pius IX. This doctrine has its day, which is on December 8. It is considered a holy day.

In some places, it is regarded as a national holiday. The term immaculate conception only refers to original sin. It does not mean she sinless throughout the rest of her life. Many countries, like Argentina, Brazil, and Spain, are under the patronage of Immaculate Conception.
