Two types of energy are present in all objects; these energies are Kinetic and potential energy. A moving matter has energy of motion (kinetic energy). It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity. All particles in matter have kinetic energy.

Potential energy is a type of energy that is stored in an object. It is the energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, electric charge, and other factors.
Hope this helps.
