Non-rebreather mask-non-rebreather masks - high concentrations of oxygen. provide 80 to 95% fio2, at flow rate of 10 to 15 l/min. the reservoir bag must be at least two-thirds full. often used for clients in respiratory distress who may require intubation. -advantages: prevent the influx of nearly all atmospheric air, so clients inspire nearly 100% oxygen. can be used for the administration of other gases. -disadvantages: can be uncomfortable for clients because they must fit snuggly against the face. eating, drinking, and talking are impaired. can be frightening, especially for the client with a history of claustrophobia. if the oxygen supply is inadequate, suffocation can occurp. 31
