Remove the gown from the weak arm first. There are many health conditions that could leave a patient in having one arm stronger than another. Nurses are taught that they should remove it from the weak arm first.

This is an important step for many reasons. One, it can help teach the patient independence. At first, they will continue to need help, but over time, they will learn to use this arm and go stronger. Along with that, doing so can reduce fall risks, as well as help the patient learn to undress.

You should remove the gown from the weak arm first because once that is over with, the gown will just come off the strong arm. It could be difficult to remove clothing from a weak or paralyzed arm.
