The correct answer to this question can vary depending on what type of muscle is being asked about. There are three types of muscles, which are skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. The skeletal muscle alone has 700 muscles in the body. There are another 400 no named muscles that many don't regard unless they are in the field of anatomy. It can be broken down even further to include hairs.

According to science, hairs are muscles. There are about 5 million on the body, so this would mean we have at least over 5 million muscles in our bodies. Each body also has 2 billion capillaries, which are also muscles. This increased the number to over 2 billion muscles.
