If a second-grade child is unable to recite the alphabet, this may be a sign of a larger issue. The best way to approach the issue would be to approach the child’s teacher to see if the child is struggling with other tasks or topics that other children are mastering at that age.

If the child is meeting other developmental milestones, he/she may just need help in this area. If there are other areas in which the child is struggling, it may be appropriate to have a more detailed discussion with teachers at the school to figure out the best way to meet the child’s educational needs.
