A honeypot is a computer security system set up to deliberately bait and attract attackers. It is designed to act as part of the system and be invisible. In this way, they gather information to stop these attacks. There are different types. A production honeypot is a simple device that are used by companies to help bolster their security systems.

These are easy to implement and don’t collect as much information. Research honeypots are more complex and delve into the threats of more difficult attacks. They get more information about the attackers, are difficult to set up, and are used by the military or a government.
