Mentors advise and inspire and the culture does not matter. They guide people toward a goal by teaching them and providing valuable insight. They are often helpful in motivating someone toward a career path. Mentoring inspires leadership and career development. Not all languages and cultures have a word for "mentor." Role models are those who encourage you to achieve your potential.

Role models show by example, rather than teaching directly. Mentors tend to be educators or someone in a position of authority. Mentors are often assigned to us, whereas, role models are often people we chose to emulate.
