A blood type, or a blood group is basically classified on the basis of the presence and absence of antibodies. Apart from that, it also depends on the absence and presence of the inherited antigenic substances that are present on the surface of the red blood cells.

These antigens can be of different types such as carbohydrates, glycolipids, proteins, and glycoproteins. These antigens can also be present on the surface of other tissues and cells. Blood types are basically genetic and inherited from both the parents.
