Ruth is a major character in the act called the crucible. She is the Putnam’s only daughter but she is thought to be under a curse. She is very sick and they think that she is practicing magic, is faking her illness or has been bewitched.

It is a complicated story as the era of the witches where the people were strictly against witch craft and wizardry and the witches were burnt alive or hanged. In this time Betty, who won’t wake up because she was also practicing magic and Ann who lost 8 babies were found in the forest practicing witchcraft.
